This week we have taken part in the Bishop’s Stortford Festival of Literature, an annual event which brings together authors, poets and illustrators to inspire young people to read and write for pleasure. Over one hundred of our children have had the opportunity to participate in virtual events including author talks, workshops and question and answer sessions. All recordings will be shared on Show My Homework to allow as many pupils as possible to access these virtual events. On Monday, a group of pupils from years 7 to 11 enjoyed an informative and inspiring talk from BAFTA award winning documentary maker and writer David Olusoga about his book ‘Black and British’.

Tuesday saw year 8 pupils hear from Robert Muchamore, best selling author of the Cherub series, about his path to becoming a writer. We were also lucky enough to take part in talks with A.M. Dassu, Emily Haworth-Booth and Alex Wheatle.

The festival has been a great opportunity for our pupils to engage with successful, creative individuals and has really created a buzz and excitement around books.
