Hello and welcome back to a new year and a new term!

Books of the Month

As Year 8 are studying Survival and Year 9 are studying Dystopia, The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave should be the perfect choice for this month’s book. Forbidden to leave the island, Isabelle dreams of other lands that her father mapped out. When her friend disappears she joins the search party and using those maps and her knowledge of the stars she navigates her way around the Forbidden Territories hoping to find her friend. But what mythical creature is lurking beneath the dry rivers and the dead forests? Described as “utterly magical” and a story that “holds like a labyrinth and won’t let go” this book should be a great read.

Our other book this month is . January is a time for fresh beginnings and New Year resolutions so this book should assist you in making a positive start by helping to ‘defy self-doubt, fearlessly follow your own path and be confidently you’. A excellent book to dip in to and to pick up useful ideas and tips on how to be a better and more confident version of yourself – perfect for teenagers.

Films of the Book

Look out for the re-vamped version of The Railway Children released in April and also in April is the third film in The Fantastic Beasts series – The Secrets of Dumbledore.

This takes place on 3rd February and for more information head to Bloomsbury Books where you can pick up all sorts of free resources to make your event a great success. St James will not be involved in the event but hopefully can put on another Harry Potter day in the summer for Year 7
