Following on from Holocaust Memorial Day 27th January a new book by Tom Palmer – After the War : from Auschwitz to Ambleside – is now available to borrow from the library. After the War over 700 children arrived in Britain from Europe  looking for a place of safety and somewhere to recover from the horrors of the concentration camps. Many had lost their parents and other members of their families… Never to see them again.

300 of those children were sent to the lakes and this book tells the story of Yossi, Leo and Mordecai who arrive in Ambleside. But it is Yossi who struggles the most with nightmares and the anxiety of missing his father, whilst clinging to his friends, afraid that they might leave him too. An excellent story with some fascinating photographs and lots of information about this amazing true story.

Their English teachers have asked them to write a short review or blurb on a chosen book as part of their homework. We currently have a number of books available to borrow on this topic if you are interested in reading them. Mrs Peters will happily drop them off at your house – clean and ready to use! Just contact school and let them know. This applies to any book that we currently have in the library.
